Japanisches Lack-Makie-Tabaktablett und Kōbon-Set – Kiefern-Motiv, Showa-Periode - Japan - Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts
This is an elegant Japanese lacquerware set consisting of a rectangular tray (kakubon), a lidded container, and a small metal-lined ash or incense bowl, traditionally used as a tobacco tray (tabakobon) or incense / kōbon set.
The surfaces are finished in deep black urushi lacquer and decorated with refined gold makie depicting a windswept pine tree, a classic Japanese symbol of longevity, resilience, and good fortune. The pine needles and trunk are rendered with fine, confident lines, showing skilled makie workmanship rather than mass production.
On the tray surface, a gold signature reading「風玉刀」(Fūgyokutō) is visible. Based on the style of the lacquer, the motif, and the overall construction, this set can be confidently attributed to Japan, Showa period, most likely mid-20th century (circa 1950–1970).
The interior of the container is finished in smooth black lacquer. The ash/incense bowl features a metal liner with visible patina, consistent with age and use. Surface scratches, light wear, and lacquer aging are present and should be considered part of the object’s history rather than defects.
