Korwar-Amulett von der Insel Yapen mit Alter - Aiwo - South Yapen Ansus-Dorf - West Papua (Ohne mindestpreis)

This excellent old Korwar amulet originates from Yapen Island, off the north coast of Papua, an area historically linked to the Korwar tradition of ancestor veneration. The figure shows clear signs of age, ritual handling, and long-term use. Korwar amulets were deeply personal objects, associated with ancestral protection, memory, and spiritual mediation. They were carried or kept close, functioning as tangible links between the living and the ancestral world. This piece was a notable find during my last field trip in Ditu, acquired directly in the region. It remains in untouched condition, with a rich, naturally developed patina and surface wear consistent with genuine use rather than later alteration. A rare and authentic example of Papuan ritual art from Yapen Island, suitable for a serious collection of Oceanic ethnography or early Papuan sculpture. A must have for collectors, ethnographers, ethnologists, anthropologists and museums Sold by Koos Knol, ethnographer and anthropologist, dealer of Papua Tribal Art for more than 30 years, expert and author of the book “Papua Blues”, written in Dutch. (Maybe in English next year.)  Published end of October 2024 A book about inside stories, a book that deals with the many encounters with special people in West Papua, the impressive experiences that the author has, about special encounters with men and women who tell him about secret things, about ethnographic objects and initiate him into the rituals and ceremonies. A must have for collectors, ethnographers, ethnologists, anthropologists and museums Google: Papua Blues Koos Knol
