This white jade snuff bottle has on both sides superb carvings! The small handles are carved in the shape of a phoenix head, depicted in great detail. The snuff bottle has a beautifully carved foot. On both sides, a Chinese character is carved in relief. On one side the character for double happiness. On the other side the character for auspicious and/or good fortune. The cap consists of a brass mount with a red hardstone top. This snuff bottle has a matte finish that gives it a beautiful appearance and contrast. Rare find, top! Has been identified as nephrite jade by measuring thermal conductivity and hardness and translucency. Also checked with UV light; which indicates a natural color.
