Römisches Reich Bronze Antikes römisches Bronze Großes Signet-/Gurtbeschlag (Terret-Ring) – ca. 1.–3. Jahrhundert n. Chr. – (Ohne mindestpreis)

Ancient Roman Bronze Harness Fitting (Terret Ring) – c. 1st–3rd Century AD – PAS Recorded An authentic Ancient Roman bronze terret ring, dating from approximately the 1st to 3rd century AD. Terret rings were functional harness fittings, used on Roman horse equipment to guide and control the reins, making them closely associated with Roman transport, cavalry, and daily movement. This example is cast in copper alloy and is oval in form, with a solid, robust construction. The loop below, originally rectangular in section, has broken at the junction with the ring, rendering the piece incomplete—an entirely typical condition for excavated Roman harness fittings. The surface displays a dark brown patina with areas of green corrosion, consistent with long burial and age. The patination is stable and visually attractive, enhancing the artefact’s archaeological character. Culture: Roman Date: c. 43–300 AD Material: Bronze (copper alloy) Object type: Harness fitting / terret ring Dimensions: approx. 30.79 × 24.42 mm Condition: Incomplete; stable with age-related wear and patina Provenance & Documentation: Officially recorded with the Portable Antiquities Scheme (UK) under reference DUR-FF3BE7. Found in Sheraton with Hulam, County Durham, United Kingdom. Discovered by metal detecting and documented by a qualified Finds Liaison Officer. The PAS record confirms identification, dating, material, and lawful reporting. A well-documented Roman harness fitting with secure provenance, suitable for collectors of Roman antiquities, study collections, or those seeking responsibly recorded artefacts with archaeological context. ***** Dear bidders, please note that we do not ship to the UK or to countries outside the European Union. If you are located outside the EU and win this lot, the sale will unfortunately have to be cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. Enjoy the bidding. (M8)
