Pre-Columbian Andean Textile Fragment
Wari (Huari) culture, Middle Horizon, circa 600–1000 AD - Peru
Fragmentary woven textile, executed in finely spun camelid fibers in tapestry weave.
The composition features a dominant red ground filled with stepped geometric motifs and abstract zoomorphic elements arranged in horizontal registers.
Stylized serpent- or feline-like forms and rectilinear pattern blocks create a complex, highly structured design typical of Wari visual language.
The textile retains openwork borders with repeating geometric units along the upper and lower edges.
Condition: Fragmentary with significant losses and wear, consistent with great age.
Stable and suitable for framing, study, or display.
Time period: Ca. 600 - 1000 AD
Dimensions: 52 x 30 cm
Provenance: purchased at a German auction - with German export license
