Suzuki Minoru (1930–2002) An einem Tag mit Ryokan - Holz - Japan - 20. Jahrhundert

Description This work is guaranteed to be an authentic work by renowned Japanese sculptor Suzuki Minoru (1930-2002). Suzuki was a member of the Kokugakai Association and received the Hirakushi Denchu Award in 1978. Born in Takahata Town, Yamagata Prefecture in 1930, Suzuki studied sculpture under Sakurai Yuichi and subsequently achieved acclaim at the Inten Exhibition, the S.A.S. Sculptors Association, and the Kokugakai Association. He earned acclaim for his expressive woodcarvings of historical figures such as Sen no Rikyu, Matsuo Basho, and especially Ryokan. This work, titled "A Day in Ryokan's Life," depicts the monk Ryokan engrossed in reading, expressing a moment of quiet contemplation and the tranquility of everyday life. The sculpture beautifully captures Ryokan's humility, warmth, and purity of spirit—qualities deeply respected by both the monk and the artist. The Ryokan statue is one of Suzuki Minoru's most famous subjects, and this work embodies the style that represents his mature period in the early Showa period. • Material: Wood carving, polychrome • Year of creation: 1962 (Showa 37) • Inscription: Carved on the base • Box: Original Tomobako (inscribed wooden box) • Condition: Overall in very good condition, considering aging.
