A finely painted 18th-century Chinese export plate in excellent condition, depicting the immortal Magu, a powerful symbol of longevity and prosperity.
Description:
Discover a captivating piece of 18th-century artistry and cross-cultural exchange. This exquisite Chinese export porcelain charger, dating to the Qianlong period (c. 1735-1796), is a superb example of famille rose (fencai) enamel work, created in Jingdezhen for the discerning Western market.
A Painting Full of Meaning:
The central scene is not merely decorative; it is a sophisticated visual wish for the owner. It depicts the Daoist immortal Magu, goddess of longevity, standing serenely on a stylised raft. She is accompanied by a deer, a symbol (lu) of prosperity and high rank.
The combination creates a powerful double blessing for long life, enduring success, and flourishing good fortune. Beside her, a vase, an emblem of peace and harmony, completes this auspicious narrative.
Exceptional Craftsmanship:
Artistic Detail: The painting is refined and delicate, with Magu's robes and the deer's form rendered in soft, lifelike enamels.
Elegant Embellishment: The cavetto is adorned with three scattered floral sprays in lovely pink, turquoise, and green.
Honest Character: The reverse shows a neat footrim with typical, minor kiln imperfections and firing specks that attest to its authentic 18th-century origin.
Outstanding Condition:
This plate has survived in remarkably fine state, truly notable for its age.
Excellent overall preservation with no cracks, hairlines, or restorations.
The vibrant enamels and original gilding remain wonderfully intact.
There are two tiny rim chips (one only visible from the reverse; the front-facing one is minimal). These are considered negligible and do not detract from the plate's beauty or display appeal.
Collector's Note:
Plates featuring this specific motif of Magu and the deer are recognized as a distinct and desirable group within Qianlong export porcelain.
With a compelling size (26.2 cm / approx. 10.3 inches in diameter) and such well-preserved artistry, this charger is a perfect candidate for a distinguished collection of Asian ceramics, a unique decorative accent, or as a significant heirloom piece filled with auspicious symbolism.
Professional custom packaging, shipped worldwide via UPS with full insurance and tracking.
