Mother of God of the Sign, also called Mother of God of Yaroslav (Yaroslavl). Rare image type Blacherniotissa (Βλαχερνιώτισσα) or Blachernitissa (Βλαχερνίτισσα). This depiction is among the oldest icon images. The icon depicts the All-Holy Mother of God, Mary, with raised hands in prayer (orant posture). In a circle (an aureole, which symbolizes divine power), there is the blessing Jesus child. The icon of Jaroslaw from the 12th century has performed numerous miracles and is a source of comfort and hope for many believers. It is a valuable symbol for the Orthodox Church and is venerated by followers across Russia. Wood, Levkas, Egg Tempera Moderate condition, two Sponkis have failed, one remains intact.
