Antique Glass and Metal Butter Dish with Cow Finial – circa 1900–1915 (Edwardian period) Antique covered butter dish made of thick, hand-cut glass with a silver-coloured metal mount and a swing handle. The lid is topped with a finely modelled three-dimensional cow figurine, mounted on an engraved base – a clear reference to dairy use and a highly decorative feature. This type of vessel was commonly used around the turn of the 20th century for storing and serving butter before the widespread adoption of refrigeration. The heavy cut glass helped to maintain a cooler temperature, while the fitted lid protected the contents. The interior features a star-cut glass base, typical of quality tableware from the period. Dating: circa 1900–1915 (Edwardian period). The dating is supported by construction details such as the use of a butterfly screw for the handle fixing, as well as the style of the cut glass and the figurative finial, all consistent with late 19th / early 20th-century manufacture. Good overall condition consistent with age and use. The metal shows natural wear and patina. The glass has a small chip / loss (clearly visible in the photographs), which does not affect stability or functionality. A charming and relatively rare example of antique dairy-related tableware, appealing both as a functional object and as a collector’s display piece.
