Makie-Lack-Tenmoku-Set — Teeschale, Deckel & Ständer mit arabesken Mustern und goldenen Vogelmotiven - Lackware (Makie auf Holz), vergoldete Keramik - Japan - 1900–2000
Item Description
This refined set of three Japanese antique tea ceremony pieces exemplifies the elegant aesthetic of traditional Japanese lacquerware and ceramics. The set consists of a tenmoku tea bowl (chawan) decorated with gilt bird-and-flower motifs (kinpaku tori-hana-mon), a lacquered lid (futa) adorned with makie arabesques (karakusa-mon), and a lacquered tenmoku stand (tenmoku-dai) also featuring intricate makie arabesque decoration (karakusa-mon).
The tea bowl displays delicate gold-painted birds and floral patterns against the ceramic surface, reflecting the Japanese taste for combining Chinese-inspired tenmoku forms with ornate decorative sensibility. The tenmoku stand and lid are crafted in lacquer with makie (sprinkled gold) technique, showcasing the karakusa (Chinese arabesque) motif — a flowing vine pattern long associated with longevity and vitality in Japanese decorative arts.
The set is housed in its original wooden storage box (hakobako), adding to its collectible appeal. Such tenmoku sets were used in formal tea ceremony (chado) settings for presenting and drinking tea, and represent an important and sought-after category of Japanese antique art.
