A Chinese carved cinnabar lacquer pedestal table of unusual form, covered in layers of vermilion red lacquer finely carved with continuous decorative motifs. The surfaces are richly ornamented with medallions depicting figures at leisure in landscape settings, as well as panels with plum branches. These scenes are surrounded by scrolling floral designs and geometric diaper patterns, carved in deep relief throughout. The small rectangular top is supported by slender, outward-curving legs, which connect to a larger rectangular base, giving the piece an elegant yet stable appearance.
