Elegant Renaissance Revival faience ewer by the renowned French manufactory Faïencerie de Gien, dating to the late 19th century (circa 1880–1895).
This finely modelled example features a bulbous body, tall flaring neck and elegantly curved handle highlighted in cobalt blue. The decoration is executed in vibrant polychrome enamels and depicts mythological and grotesque Renaissance motifs including griffins, cherubs, heraldic emblems and a central medallion scene, all framed by elaborate strapwork ornament.
The creamy tin-glazed surface displays a characteristic and attractive crackle glaze typical of Gien production from this period.
The underside bears the interlaced Gien factory monogram mark used in the late 19th century.
