"Before moving to Germany with his family, Willy Otto Zielke studied railway engineering in Russia. He settled in Munich and began to study photography at the Bayerische Staatslehranstalt für Fotografie. He made precisely crafted photographs, including many still-life compositions, and was then appointed master teacher at the school in 1928. In 1932 he began working with motion pictures and produced his first film, Arbeitslos. In 1936 Zielke produced the prologue for Leni Riefenstahl's film Olympiad. After World War II he worked as a translator in Potsdam and then returned to West Germany, where he worked as an industrial filmmaker, sometimes under the pseudonym Victor Valet.
