A large and impressive work of exceptional quality, this piece can be considered museum quality due to its scale, craftsmanship, and strong sculptural character. It is not a tourist production but a serious collector’s object. Bulul figures are among the most important and culturally significant sculptures of the Ifugao people of northern Philippines. Traditionally carved from a single solid piece of wood, these guardian figures appear in either standing or seated form and are distinguished by their stylized, geometric rendering of the human body. This example depicts a standing male figure with arms positioned straight alongside the body, conveying strength, authority, and a commanding presence. The proportions, surface, and carving style are consistent with traditional Ifugao sculptural practice. Old Dutch private collection, bought from Brussels gallery in the 80's.
