Hindu Messing Glocke mit dem Griff eines Gottes (Ohne mindestpreis)
A very fine Hindu bell made of brass, featuring a carinated body adorned with pairs of concentric circles and a line of Hindi inscription in the middle on one side. The handle is modelled in a mirrored design, in the form of a deity, depicted standing with the hands pressed together at the chest, a hand gesture widely used in Hinduism as a sign of respect or a silent greeting. This piece is probably once used in Hindu ceremonies or rituals. Signs of wear to the surface as consistent with age. Old collection label to on side at the bottom.
A Hindu brass bell, or ghanti, is used during rituals to invoke divine presence and purify the space. The bell’s sound symbolises auspiciousness, drives away negativity, and focuses the mind. Often decorated or engraved with deities and symbols, the bell is rung at the start of prayers and during aarti (worship).
Measurements: W 10.9cm x H 18.8cm
Provenance: From the Jeffrey Romer important collection of Hindu art, 1990s. Ex central London gallery.
