A fantastic medium-sized six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) featuring an idyllic spring landscape set on oxidised silver leaf. Rolling hills unfold beneath flowering cherry trees 桜 (sakura), their branches laden with soft pink blossoms. Executed in colour and ink on oxidised silver leaf, which has naturally developed a beautiful aged patina over time. The flower heads are finely modelled in low relief using gofun 胡粉 (shell paste). The painting is bordered by two silk brocade trims: a slender navy-blue inner band and a broader green outer band. The screen is set within a black lacquered wooden frame fitted with protective metal hardware.
