Altägyptisch Fayence Amulett einer wandelnden Gottheit (Ohne mindestpreis)
Ancient Egyptian Faience Amulet of a Striding Deity (Probably Thoth / Anubis) - 21.5 mm
Culture/Region: Ancient Egypt
Period: Late Period (26th - 30th Dynasty, c. 664 - 332 B.C.)
Material: Faience (with traces of original pale green glaze)
Dimensions: Height: 21.5 mm (excluding modern wooden base)
Description:
A small Ancient Egyptian faience amulet depicting an anthropomorphic deity in the traditional striding pose, with the left leg advanced. The figure features arms resting straight at its sides and is supported by a standard back pillar. A suspension hole is horizontally pierced at the shoulder/neck level, typical for amulets intended to be sewn onto mummy wrappings or worn on a necklace. Due to extensive and natural ancient wear, the facial features and headdress are completely abraded. However, the specific iconography, proportions, and posture strongly suggest an animal-headed deity, most likely Thoth (ibis-headed) or Anubis (jackal-headed), which were highly popular during the Late Period for their protective roles in the afterlife.
Condition:
Authentic ancient condition. The piece is structurally intact but exhibits heavy surface wear and smoothing consistent with millennia of burial and handling. The facial details are lost. Earthy mineral deposits are visible in the recesses, confirming its antiquity. Mounted on a custom wooden display base.
Provenance:
European private collection 1970
