Theme: Cross - The cross is one of the most ancient human symbols, and is used by many religions, such as Christianity. It is frequently a representation of the division of the world into four elements (or cardinal points), or alternately as the union of the concepts of divinity, the vertical line, and the world, the horizontal line.

Material: pendant is 18K warm yellowish-reddish gold and details in silver (touchstone tested), chain is in silver

Technique: The rose cuts are set on foil. This is a ancient technique that was used to bring the lustre of the diamonds to its best quality. This is being done by placing in the closed mounting under the diamond a highly polished cone of silver foil.

Extra information: This is a typical Belgian, late 18th till mid-19th century, pendant set with rose cut diamonds. They are called 'à la Jeannette' or 'croix à la Jeanette' which is French for: "cross in the style of Jeanette". It consists of three loose but hinged parts, from the top part a (two-piece) pendant in the form of a (hinged) latin cross is dangling, the lowest of these two is pear-shaped. These are all made in the same manner with serrated edges, stylized flowers set with small rose cut diamonds and high dome-shaped mountings for the bigger rose cut diamonds.

Diamond(s): 23 senaille and rose cuts. A senaille is a simplified rose cut diamond, a small diamond chip with perhaps a few polished facets.

Unlike brilliant-cut diamonds, where weight correlates with diameter, rose cuts vary in thickness, making weight estimation impossible once set. Providing such figures could lead to unnecessary debates, as rose-cut diamonds were traditionally valued for their visual effect rather than intrinsic worth. Even major auction houses like Sotheby’s and Christie’s rarely list their weight, except for exceptionally large stones, where diameter is often provided instead.
