According to tradition, Arthur’s legend began in the early Middle Ages, when England was not yet a unified country but known as the Kingdom of the Britons. The kingdom was frequently attacked by Saxon, Anglian, and other Germanic tribes from southern Scandinavia. King Arthur became legendary as the defender and protector of the Britons, and thanks to his courage and skill in battle, he was able to keep the land safe during his reign. The reverse of the coin depicts Arthur Pendragon in battle against his enemies, holding Excalibur. Two warriors protect the king from behind while another has already fallen. The obverse shows the twelve shields and the names of twelve houses of Camelot, including Arthur Pendragon, King of Britain, along with the eleven other knights who will be featured in upcoming releases of the series.
