The whisky is matured for twelve years in a combination of sherry-seasoned American oak casks and European oak sherry casks. This double cask maturation creates a perfect balance between sweetness and spice, which is characteristic of Macallan’s style. The American oak provides soft notes of vanilla and honey, while the European oak adds more depth with dried fruits and warm spices. Tasting Notes Colour Warm gold / honey colour. Nose Creamy vanilla, honey, dried apricots, light citrus, subtle oak and a hint of nutmeg. Palate Soft and rounded with notes of caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, sultana raisins and gentle spices. Finish Medium length and elegant with light oak, sweet sherry notes and a warm spiciness.
