Mittelalter, Epoche der Kreuzritter Bronzenes Kreuzanhänger – Heiliges Land des 11. bis 13. Jahrhunderts – Schutzamulet für Pilger (Ohne mindestpreis)

A remarkable bronze cross pendant dating to the period of the Crusades, a time when devotional objects held deep personal and spiritual meaning for those who travelled to the Holy Land. Cross pendants of this type were widely worn by pilgrims, soldiers, and members of the crusading orders as powerful symbols of faith, protection, and divine guidance. The pendant displays a well-proportioned Latin cross form with slightly expanding arms. The front surface is decorated with small circular punched motifs arranged symmetrically along the arms and centre, creating a subtle but visually striking pattern. These punched decorations were commonly used in medieval metalwork and may symbolically reference sacred points or serve as ornamental accents enhancing the spiritual significance of the cross. At the centre of the cross, a subtle geometric arrangement of the punched points forms a radiating pattern, drawing the eye to the heart of the pendant and reinforcing the symbolic focus of the Christian cross. The top features an integral suspension loop allowing the pendant to be worn on a cord or chain. During the Crusader period, such pendants were often worn close to the heart as devotional objects, believed to offer protection during travel, battle, and pilgrimage. They served not only as expressions of religious devotion but also as visible markers of identity for those connected with the Christian presence in the Holy Land. The reverse side remains plain, showing the beautiful aged bronze surface and natural archaeological patina developed over centuries. The piece displays authentic wear consistent with long use and considerable age. Culture: Crusader / Medieval Christian Region: Eastern Mediterranean / Holy Land Date: Circa 11th–13th century AD Material: Bronze Type: Cross pendant Decoration: Punched circular motifs forming a symmetrical pattern Condition: Complete with ancient patina and wear consistent with age A powerful devotional object from the age of the Crusades, reflecting the deep faith and protective symbolism carried by pilgrims and warriors who travelled to the sacred land
