Amida Nyorai, also known as Amitabha, is the principal Buddha of Pure Land Buddhism. According to this belief, those who recite “Namu Amida Butsu” may be reborn in the Western Pure Land, where Amida Buddha teaches the Dharma. The figure is hand-carved from wood and finished with a traditional coating made from gold powder mixed with lacquer, giving the statue a softly aged golden appearance. The Buddha stands before an ornate halo on a decorative lotus pedestal. The sculpture dates to the late Edo period and is housed in a Showa-period wooden zushi alter cabinet. Age-related wear including scuffs, scratches, dirt, discoloration, and lacquer loss. Small chips on the head, finger losses on both hands, cracks on the halo, and cracks with repair on the base.
