Zuni-Kachina-Puppe „Zenith“ - Kachina - Zuñi - USA

Here for sale is an exceptional Zuni Kachina Doll depicting the warrior "Zenith" possibly dating from the mid 20th century. The doll is made of cotton wood and is very light with a weight of 340 grams. As can be observed the doll is painted with natural pigments and there are traces of turquoise pigments on the figure, it also holds a shaman stick that has feathers and the arms are articulated and held in with what appear to be either nails or pins. Some of the feathers appear to be iridescent Crows feathers, but as for what species of bird the other feathers originate from, their identification remains unknown. The figure also has a heavily worn skirt made of what appears to be a heavy woven fabric and a very fragile fur sash (possibly rabbit) adorns the doll. The doll is posed in walking position demonstrating the ritualistic dance that the young girls of the tribe; for whom these doll were created for, would have to learn from the elder women of the tribe. The doll is large and the dimensions are: H: 45 CM, W: 10.5 CM, D: 14 CM. The doll shows signs of its age(please see photos for further information). The piece comes from a private collection and was acquired at Robert's Swaffham Marketplace Auctioneers around 2002. This is a must have for collectors of Zuni, Hopi and Native American artifacts. Item will be shipped well packed.
