SELTENES GROßES CHINESISCHES EXPORT-FAMILLE-ROSE TELLER ODER CHARGER, 18. JAHRHUNDERT, - China - Qianlong (1736-1795)

Offered is a fine and rare Chinese export porcelain charger, beautifully painted in famille rose enamels, dating from the 18th century Qianlong period. The plate features Ma Gu Xian Shou (The Hemp Goddess), a revered Taoist immortal and attendant to the Queen Mother of the West. Central to the legend in the classic novel Journey to the West, Ma Gu is celebrated for brewing a special cannabis wine for the Queen Mother's legendary peach banquet, a scene famously known as "Ma Gu Offers Longevity," making her a powerful emblem of fortune and long life. The interior is finely decorated with Ma Gu standing on a log raft, accompanied by a deer, a direct symbol of longevity. She holds a long staff, and the well is painted in soft, lifelike enamels with delicate attention to her robes and the deer’s form. The rim is adorned with three elegant floral sprays. The reverse reveals a neatly finished footrim with minor, typical kiln imperfections and firing specks, characteristics that confidently attest to its authentic 18th century origin. Diameter: An impressive 26.2 cm (approx. 10.3 inches) Condition: This charger has survived in remarkably fine condition, truly notable for its age. The vibrant enamels and original gilding remain wonderfully intact. There are two tiny rim chips (one visible only from the reverse; the front-facing chip is minimal). These are considered negligible and do not detract from the plate's beauty or display appeal. There are no cracks, hairlines, or restorations. A similar example, an earlier yet smaller plate bearing the identical decoration was offered at Christie's (Live Auction 20719, Lot 1040), underscoring the desirability and historical significance of this iconography. A rare and highly collectible piece of Chinese export history. Professional custom packaging, shipped worldwide via UPS with full insurance and tracking.
