Lorestan Bronze Alter Bronze-Siegelring aus Amlash mit geometrischem / astrologischem Motiv, 1. Jahrtausend
Ancient Amlash Bronze Seal Ring with Geometric / Astrological Motif – 1st
Millennium BC
A rare and highly evocative ancient bronze seal ring originating from the Amlash culture,
a little-known but archaeologically significant civilisation that flourished along the
southern coast of the Caspian Sea in present-day northern Iran during the 1st millennium
BC.
The ring is distinguished by its large, circular bezel, decorated in low relief with a
complex geometric or astrological design, divided into radiating segments. Such motifs
are characteristic of Amlash metalwork and are often interpreted as cosmic, calendrical,
or symbolic representations, reflecting belief systems tied to nature, time, and
protection.
Rings of this type functioned primarily as seal rings, used to impress designs into clay or
wax to denote ownership, authority, or identity. The substantial bezel and bold relief
strongly support this interpretation.
The bronze surface exhibits a beautiful and stable blue-green patina, formed naturally
over centuries of burial and typical of ancient Near Eastern bronze artefacts. The hoop is
thick and robust, indicating purposeful craftsmanship and long-term use.

Amlash rings are increasingly sought after due to their rarity, distinctive iconography,
and connection to a culture that remains only partially understood. This example, with its
bold bezel and well-preserved design, is a particularly fine representative.
A museum-worthy artefact of the ancient Near East — ideal for advanced collectors of
antiquities, Near Eastern material culture, or early symbolic jewellery, and a compelling
conversation piece with deep historical resonance.
