The subject of this auction is a print of the painting *Lightnings* by Iain Wyllie. Trained as a naval architect with a keen interest in ships, Iain painted his first works depicting famous clippers and beautiful seascapes. His early works in aviation painting were created for art competitions while he was a member of the Royal Observer Corps. He still owns the painting of the Gloster Javelin in his collection, which won the first of many competitions in the 1960s. In the 1970s, Iain perfected the art of airbrushing, becoming an increasingly recognized artist in the United Kingdom. This ultimately led Iain to become a full-time aviation airbrush artist, creating over 80 cover paintings for the famous “Osprey” aviation book series, as well as numerous private commissions.
