Teebehälter/-kasten - Holz, Urushi, maki-e - Bamboo Maki-e Natsume

Name: Japanese Wooden Take Maki-e (竹纹蒔絵) Chū-natsume (中棗) Artist: Anonymous Size: Height approx. 6.6 cm × Max. Diameter approx. 6.6 cm (2.6 × 2.6 in) Weight: 66.7 g Tomobako (Wooden Box) Size: Height 10.7 cm × Width 8.9 cm (4.2 × 3.5 in) Material: Wooden core, Japanese lacquer, maki-e Age: Late Shōwa to Early Heisei period, Japan (c. 1970–1980) This is a classic wooden maki-e chū-natsume used in the Japanese tea ceremony, complete with its original brocade drawstring pouch, preserved as a full set. Natsume (棗) is a traditional tea caddy for holding matcha powder, named for its small, rounded shape resembling a jujube fruit. This piece is crafted using traditional multi-layered lacquer coating techniques. Gold powder is used to depict take (竹,bamboo) patterns on the lacquer surface: tall, straight bamboo stalks and delicate, lively leaves rendered with fluid, fine lines, showcasing the artisan’s exquisite maki-e skill. The lacquer base is a warm-toned ryūnuri (溜漆), deep and lustrous, a highly representative classic finish in Japanese lacquerware. The piece includes its original brocade drawstring pouch, a traditional storage bag for tea utensils that serves both protective and ceremonial functions in chanoyu (tea ceremony). Due to age, the brocade pouch shows noticeable wear. The natsume bears minor natural oxidation, but the lacquer surface remains intact: no noticeable scratches, no cracks, and no lacquer loss. The overall condition is good. Note: Delivery to Italy takes approximately 6–7 days. Customs or the courier may contact you for customs clearance. Kindly reply promptly, as delays may result in the package being returned.
