Fudō Myōō, known as the “Immovable Protector,” is shown seated upon a rock, symbolising steadfastness and unshakable resolve. His characteristic blue skin represents spiritual power, while the flaming halo behind him signifies the burning away of earthly desires and ignorance. In his right hand he holds a sword used to cut through delusion, and in his left, a rope used to bind evil forces. The four wrathful deities surrounding him are believed to form part of the Five Great Wisdom Kings, who serve as fierce guardians of Buddhist law within Esoteric Buddhism. This is a large-format work mounted within a wooden frame with glass, added during the Showa period (1926–1989). There is surface deterioration to the paper including tears, losses, creasing, staining, and discolouration. The reverse side shows several large tears. The wooden frame has minor scuffs and small chips. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions of Wooden Frame: approx. H 109 cm W 50 cm D 3.1 cm Dimensions of Painting: approx.
