Unknown - Qur'an - Persian Safaivid - 1580

A single illuminated loose manuscript folio page from a 16th Century Safaivid Persian Koran. The folio contains scripture from Verses 19-25 of Chapter 2, Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) which serve as a pivotal transition, shifting from the description of hypocrites to a direct address to all humanity, urging the worship of God, establishing the authenticity of the Quran, and contrasting the fates of disbelievers and believers. It covers the parable to the hypocrites, a call to humanity, the challenge to doubt, and reward to the believers. The page has 12 lines of scripture in black nashk script, together with two illuminated marginals imarking the 20th and 25th verses of the chapter. The individual verses are indicated with vibrant gold aya roundels dotted with blue on the circumference, and the occasional diacritical marking in red offering advice to the reader. The scripture has a solid gold surround frame with a blue liner outside this. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.

Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
