Sawada Hideyuki - Chawan - Porzellan - Nezumi-Shino Chawan
This is a stunning example of Nezumi-Shino (Gray Shino) pottery, handcrafted by the esteemed master Sawada Hideyuki at the Syusen Touen workshop in the Mino region.
Nezumi-Shino is a classic Japanese ceramic style characterized by its beautiful gray-blue hue, achieved by applying a feldspathic glaze over a coat of iron-rich slip. The iron-wash is scratched away to create delicate white designs—in this case, a graceful floral/grass motif—that emerge beautifully after firing.
Key Features:
Glaze & Texture: The bowl features the signature "Yuzuhada" (yuzu skin) texture with fine pinholes and a thick, milky glaze that feels soft to the touch.
Aesthetics: Hints of "Hi-iro" (fire marks/scorch marks) appear in reddish tones around the rim and base, adding a sense of rustic "Wabi-Sabi" beauty.
Artist Signature: The bottom of the bowl bears the artist's incised mark.
Provenance: Comes with the original signed and sealed wooden box (Tomobako), a traditional yellow wrapping cloth (Ukon-nuno), and a descriptive pamphlet about the kiln's history.
Condition:
Excellent condition. No cracks, chips, or repairs. Please refer to the photos for a detailed view of the texture and craftsmanship.
Dimensions:
Height: approx. 8.5 cm
Diameter: approx. 11.5 cm
