Noren yori Yuzaka Han (のれんより 湯坂半) - Unknown - Japan (Ohne mindestpreis)

Title: Noren yori Yuzaka Han (のれんより 湯坂半) Artist: Unknown Medium: Woodblock Print Marks: Artist’s signature and seal Edition: A.P. (Artist’s Proof) in pencil Paper Size: 48 × 45.5 cm (18.90 × 17.91 in) Image Size: 40 × 38 cm (15.75 × 14.96 in) Material: Japanese Washi paper This black-and-white woodblock print was created by a Japanese Showa-period artist (biography not traced), circa 1950–1970s. It depicts the traditional architectural style of Yuhan (湯波半), a famous long-established yuba (tofu skin) restaurant in Kyoto. The print shows the facade of a traditional Japanese machiya (町家) townhouse shop, including its curtain noren (暖簾) and exterior structure. Centered on the restaurant Yuhan Han (湯波半), it focuses on the shop front and roof with a calm composition and restrained perspective. Bold, vigorous carving lines and strong black-and-white contrast create a rich, rustic woodblock texture, capturing a deeply Japanese street atmosphere. The powerful lines and simple light and shadow combine the quiet elegance of traditional architecture with the expressive power of modern printmaking, resulting in a 古朴,serene composition full of Eastern poetic sensibility. Marked A.P. (Artist’s Proof) in pencil at the lower-left, the title is written at the center, and the artist’s monogram and red seal appear at the lower-right. The paper exhibits age-related oxidation, discoloration (toning) and minor creases, consistent with its age. Overall good condition. This piece is sold without a frame. The images are only for showing the effect after framing.
