Very impressive antique Islamic Ottoman / Bedouin ring. Raised oval bezel with carnelian stone intaglio showing a scorpion. The bezel border and shoulders are richly decorated on all sides, tapering ring band. -> The scorpion motif held an apotropaic function, symbolising protection against harm and evil. Such imagery is well attested in Islamic talismanic traditions, where it served as a protective emblem rather than a purely decorative device.
