Theropode - Fossiles Skelett - Anchiornis - 44 cm - 31 cm
This is the best-preserved feathered Anchiornis fossil. It is large, with teeth exhibiting a porcelain-like luster, translucent bones, and clearly visible feathers. The photograph shows feathers, soft tissue, and even wing and toe nails; scleral rings are also preserved. Most remarkably, internal organs are present. It is truly exceptional.
This fossil underwent extensive microscopic restoration without any alterations, preservatives to conceal details, or pigments to enhance contrast. No repairs were made that would diminish its academic value. This plays a crucial role in the evolution from dinosaurs to birds. It may not be Anchiornis, as it has a larger head, larger teeth, a longer tail, more caudal vertebrae, and is clearly more robust, with thicker bones and larger sickle-shaped claws. Its wings are less developed than Anchiornis's, but its hands and claws are more advanced, making it more dinosaur-like overall.
This is significant for understanding the evolution of birds and their flight capabilities. It represents a transitional stage from early dinosaur species to more advanced bird species. It lived during the Middle and Late Jurassic periods and is the earliest known feathered theropod dinosaur; it's like a textbook of evolution.
