Artist Profile 鈴木五郎 Suzuki Goro (1941–) was born in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, and began his ceramic practice in 1957. He made his debut at the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition) in 1962 and went on to win numerous awards including the Asahi Ceramic Arts Exhibition Governor's Prize (1963), the Asahi Ceramic Arts Exhibition Grand Prize (1966), and the Japan Ceramic Society Prize (2002). He has held solo exhibitions at major department stores and galleries across Japan, and has been active internationally as an invited artist and exhibitor. Suzuki is widely regarded as a leading figure in the revival and reinterpretation of Momoyama-period Mino ceramics — particularly Shino and Oribe wares.
