Yasuo Tamaoki (玉置保夫)(1941-) - Kelch - Steinzeug - Oribe Goblet, Traubenmotiv

Green runs wild here. A stoneware goblet by Yasuo Tamaoki (玉置保夫), executed in Oribe glaze — one of Japan's most dramatic ceramic traditions, born in the Mino kilns of the 16th century and still alive in the hands of masters today. The surface is painted with bold grape-and-vine motifs in iron black, while pools of vivid green Oribe glaze flow freely across the body, creating an asymmetry that feels both ancient and alive. This is not a vessel to be hidden in a cabinet. It demands to be seen. Complete with original signed wooden box (tomobako) and original artist biographical document. Works by Yasuo Tamaoki are increasingly difficult to find with full provenance. A rare opportunity. Artist Profile Yasuo Tamaoki (玉置保夫)(b.1941) was born in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture — the historic heartland of Mino ceramics. He trained at the Gifu Prefectural Ceramics Research Institute and went on to be selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition from 1955. He became a full member of the Japan Kogei Association in 1968, received the Tokai Traditional Crafts Exhibition Grand Prize in 1977, and the Japan Ceramics Society Award in 1980. In 1985 he received the Special Jury Prize at the 1st International Ceramics Festival in Mino. He was designated an Intangible Cultural Property of Tajimi City in 2002, and of Gifu Prefecture in 2008 — one of the highest honours in Japanese craft ceramics. Condition Excellent condition: barely used with minimal signs of wear. No cracks, chips, or restorations. Comes with original signed wooden box (tomobako) and artist biographical document.
