Three Sisters (三姉妹) - Yumi Kusumi (楠見由美) - Japan (Ohne mindestpreis)

Title: Three Sisters (三姉妹) Artist: Yumi Kusumi (楠見由美) Medium: Silkscreen Print Signature: Hand-signed in pencil by the artist Edition: 12/100 Limited Edition Image Size: 29.8 × 46.5 cm (11.7 × 18.3 in) Frame Size: 44.0 × 61.5 × 2.2 cm (17.3 × 24.2 × 0.9 in) Paper: Cotton paper This elegant work depicting three graceful classical women was created by Japanese printmaker Yumi Kusumi (楠見由美) in the 1980s–1990s. Centered on the traditional Japanese junihitoe (じゅうにひとえ) court costume, the composition portrays three noblewomen in magnificent Heian-period attire. The figures wear traditional long hair and golden jeweled hair ornaments, exuding classical aristocratic grace. The garments are richly layered: outer robes in pale green with pink-blue floral patterns, inner layers with red-and-gold designs and geometric motifs. The palette of red, green, purple and gold is luxurious and harmonious. The left figure is turned away, while the central and right figures are in profile, creating subtle spatial depth. The background features a soft, cloud-like wash in metallic pale orange-gold with a delicate iridescent pearlescent finish, which shifts beautifully under different light and angles, enhancing the work’s refined classical atmosphere. The piece combines the flat composition and linear beauty of Ukiyo-e with the delicate coloring of modern fine brushwork. The figures are softly rounded, continuing the aesthetic of traditional Bijin-ga (美人絵) (beautiful women paintings), while modern print techniques preserve the texture of hand-painting. Hand-signed Yumi Kusumi and numbered 12/100 in pencil at the lower right. The backing board includes the artist and work details; the piece comes with its original packaging box, which shows some damage. The box is labeled with matching artist and work information. As the frame is sealed, back details cannot be photographed. Presented in its original gilt wooden frame with acrylic glazing and white mat. The frame shows minor scuffs, scratches and light signs of use. The work displays slight natural oxidation consistent with age, and is in good overall condition.
