Mashiko Ware Yohen Shinsha Tea Bowl von Ryuzan - Keramik - Ryuzan / 龍山 - Japan - Shōwa Zeit (1926-1989)

Description: This cylindrical tea bowl is defined by its vertical form and the layered depth of its glaze. The surface is finished in a Yohen (kiln-transformed) Shinsha (oxblood) glaze, where copper-based tones shift across deep crimson, violet, and passages of cerulean blue, emerging through the firing process. Horizontal throwing marks (rokuro-me) encircle the body, creating a subtle rhythm that interacts with the glaze as it gathers and thins along the surface. Toward the rim, the edge rises with a slight undulation, softening the otherwise upright profile. Inside, the glaze deepens toward the base, where it settles into a darker, glass-like pool. In contrast, the foot is left unglazed, exposing a pale and coarse clay body typical of Mashiko stoneware, setting a clear boundary between the finished surface and the underlying material. The piece is accompanied by a signed wooden storage box (tomobako). Dimensions: Diameter: 12 cm Height: 10.5 cm Weight: 530 grams Condition: No chips, cracks or restorations. Artist Profile: Ryuzan / 龍山 (Dates unknown). A ceramic artist associated with Mashiko ware, a traditional pottery practice from Tochigi Prefecture. While detailed biographical information is limited, his work follows the Mashiko approach to functional stoneware with an emphasis on surface variation and material presence. This piece bears his signature seal, and the accompanying wooden box is inscribed, identifying him as the maker. Additional Notes Please review all photos carefully as they are part of the item description.
