Antique oil on canvas – Italian rural scene (Neapolitan school, late 19th / early 20th century)
An antique oil on canvas depicting a rural Italian scene: a peasant woman and a young girl transporting hay with a donkey along a mountain path. The composition, palette, and treatment of light are characteristic of the Neapolitan school, and the work can be attributed stylistically to this tradition. The painting is unsigned, and its precise origin remains unknown.
On the back, an old inventory number and a date suggest previous cataloguing within a private collection or institutional archive.
The painting was evaluated by an expert at Mercanteinfiera Parma 2025, who estimated its value at approximately €500.
Condition
The canvas is well preserved, with vivid colours and stable paint layers. Hardly noticeable craquelures/losses shown on the photos. The frame and protective glass are included and in good condition.
