Lee Friedlander - Photographs (NICE PROVENANCE, FIRST RETROSPECTIVE MONOGRAPH) - 1978

WONDERFUL, IMPORTANT, VERY EARLY PHOTOBOOK from 1978 (!) by famous American photographer Lee Friedlander. FIRST RETROSPECTIVE MONOGRAPH by the artist with photos between 1962 and 1976, among others: from his famous series "American Monuments", "Family" or "Self-Portraits". This book was published on the occasion of an exhibition at The Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, New York. INTERESTING PROVENANCE: The book comes from the library of former well-known German gallerist Bodo Niemann (with his original signature and his hand-written buying month/year at the top of the first blank page: "1/79"). For many years Bodo Niemann was one of the leading International gallerists for photography. RARE TITLE. Welcome to the next edition of the VERY POPULAR SINGLE-SELLER-AUCTIONS by 5Uhr30.com (Ecki Heuser, Cologne, Germany). This time with a BEST-OF-SELECTION from 1926 to 2026, so of the last 100 (!) years of photobook history. Haywire Press, New York. 1978. First edition, first printing. Hardcover in blue linen with letters in silver (as issued). 293 x 273 mm. 108 pages. 137 photos in black and white. Photos: Lee Friedlander. Text in English. Condition: Inside fresh and flawless; clean with no foxing and with no marks (excepted the mentioned mark by German gallerist Bodo Niemann). Sensitive linen covers sunned at the edges and at the spine; no other remarkable defects (so corners are sharp and the letters in silver well-preserved). Overall fine condition. Great, early Lee Friedlander retrospective monograph. 5Uhr30.com guarantees detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% protection, 100% insurance and combined shipping worldwide. Friedlander is famous for fantastic photobooks like "The American Monument" (Andrew Roth, The Book of 101 Books, page 236/237. Martin Parr & Gerry Badger, The Photobook, vol 2, page 28. The Open Book, Hasselblad Center, page 310. 802 photo books of the M. + M. Auer collection, page 600), "Self Portrait" (Andrew Roth, The Book of 101 Books, page 298/299, Martin Parr & Gerry Badger, The Photobook, vol 1, page 258. The Open Book, Hasselblad Center, page 262/263. 802 photo books of the M. + M. Auer collection, page 514) or "Cray at Chippewa Falls" (Martin Parr & Gerry Badger, The Photobook, vol 2, page 199).
