U (卯) – Zodiac Rabbit Lithograph - Uemura Jun'ichi (上村淳之,b. 1933) - Japan (Ohne mindestpreis)

Title: U (卯) – Zodiac Rabbit Lithograph Artist: Uemura Jun’ichi (上村淳之,b. 1933) Medium: Lithograph Hand-signed and sealed by the artist in pencil Pencil-numbered 77/500, limited edition Image size: 24 × 33 cm (9.4 × 13.0 in) Frame size: 42.5 × 51 × 2.5 cm (16.7 × 20.1 × 1.0 in) Material: Cotton paper This delicate lithograph was created in the 1990s by Uemura Jun’ichi (上村淳之), a leading figure of the Kyoto art scene. Born into an established artistic family, he is renowned for his refined depictions of flowers, birds, and natural motifs. The composition features a minimalist, charmingly rounded rabbit-shaped wagashi (和菓子), resting on a vermilion Japanese paper tray (折敷), accented with fresh bamboo leaves. The background has a soft, warm gold tone (with gold leaf/gold dust texture), expressing the quiet elegance of traditional Japanese aesthetics. “U (卯)” represents the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac. In Japanese culture, the Rabbit symbolizes good fortune, peace, and longevity. Rabbit-shaped wagashi is a classic festive confection, especially for New Year celebrations, embodying blessings and traditional Japanese cultural beauty. The work is pencil-numbered 77/500 in the lower-left corner, and hand-signed “Jun’ichi (淳之)” with a red seal in the lower-right corner. Published by SOGO (崇光百貨), a major Japanese department store. Labels with the artist’s and publisher’s information are present on the frame backing and original box. The piece is preserved in its original complete framing. As the frame backing is sealed, additional photos of the verso cannot be provided. Original gilt metal frame with acrylic glazing, including the original presentation box. The frame shows minor surface scratches and wear consistent with age. The paper exhibits slight natural toning due to time. Overall condition is good.
