A patinated bronze vase by Yamamoto Hôzan 山本鳳山 in the form of a double gourd. The vase is modelled with a bulbous body, rising to a broad mouth and short upright lip. The surface is finished in a warm brown patina, overlaid with a swirling red murashidō 斑紫銅 pattern, creating a soft, mottled effect across the body. The underside is sealed ‘Hôzan’ 鳳山. The signature Hôzan is used by multiple generations of the Yamamoto family: Yamamoto Hôzan I (b. 1878) established his own bronze workshop in 1908. Yamamoto Hôzan II (b. 1902) was recognised in 1975 as a traditional craftsman by the Minister of International Trade and Industry. Yamamoto Hôzan III (b. 1949) was designated a traditional industrial craftsman of Takaoka City in 1989.
