A set of 5 original lime sticks, recovered from the bottom of Lake Sentani, Lake Sentani. These objects are attributed to the early collection period associated with Wirz in the early 1900s, and represent traditional lime applicators used in betel chewing culture across the region. Carved in wood, they show a strong sense of form and variation in handwork, each stick bearing traces of long submersion and age. The surface has developed a distinctive patina from prolonged contact with water and sediment. Early ethnographic finds from this period and provenance are exceptionally rare, particularly pieces recovered from underwater contexts. A highly unusual and authentic group, well suited for serious collectors of Oceanic and ethnographic material.
