Shino-Yaki - Nakajima Enso (中島塩草) - Teeschale - Ton - Kutsuwa-gata

Japanese Shino-ware Tea Bowl (Chawan) - Kutsuwa-gata (Bridle-shaped) by Nakajima Enso (with Tomobako) Description: This is an authentic Japanese Matcha tea bowl (Chawan) crafted by the esteemed Seto-based potter, Nakajima Enso (中島塩草). Artistic Style: The bowl is a stunning example of Shino-ware (志野焼), characterized by its thick, milky-white feldspar glaze and natural pinholes (yuzuhada). This piece features a bold, two-tone design with deep iron-black and contrasting white glaze, creating a powerful visual impact reminiscent of a landscape or abstract calligraphy. Form: The shape is known as Kutsuwa-gata (轡形 - Bridle-shaped), intentionally distorted from a perfect circle into a softened rectangular or oval silhouette. This "beauty of imperfection" is highly prized in the Japanese Tea Ceremony (Chado) as it reflects the Zen-inspired aesthetic of Wabi-sabi. The Artist: Nakajima Enso is a respected craftsman from Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, a region with over 1,000 years of ceramic history. He is renowned for his mastery of traditional Mino and Seto styles, including Shino, Oribe, and Ki-Seto. His works are celebrated for their sturdy presence and traditional elegance. Condition & Authentication: Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Please refer to the photos for details. Signature: The artist's mark is impressed on the bottom of the bowl. Accessories: Comes with the original wooden storage box (Tomobako), signed and sealed by the artist, which serves as a certificate of authenticity.
