Inspired by traditional Scotch whisky, Torii envisioned a Japanese approach, choosing a terrain and climate entirely different from those in Scotland to create a unique type of whisky. The Yamazaki Distillery, the producer of Suntory Yamazaki Islay Peated, is therefore the birthplace of Japanese whisky. Proudly nestled on the outskirts of Kyoto, this region was once known as “Minaseno,” the source of some of Japan’s purest water. Yamazaki is also the home of Sen no Rikyu, Master of “The Way of Tea.” The Yamazaki Distillery is located at the confluence of the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers. These rivers provide a unique misty climate and some of Japan’s softest water. The diverse temperature and humidity of this region create ideal conditions for barrel aging, known as the signature “Suntory Maturation.” This is part of an extraordinary limited edition that pays homage to Shinjiro Torii, founder of Yamazaki, whose motto tsukuriwake, or "diversity of crafting," became a guiding principle for the brand. Suntory Yamazaki Islay Peated is a single malt made from a selection of malt whiskies crafted with malted and peated barley to create a smoky flavor that stands out for its depth and aroma, while remaining subtle and elegant.
