A Zeppelin is a rigid, cigar-shaped airship , constructed from a lightweight skeleton containing gas bags filled with a light gas. The type is named after the great pioneer of airship travel, Ferdinand von Zeppelin , who developed the airship into a serious means of transport for passengers and mail at the beginning of the 20th century.
