This diminutive bronze unit features Athena, the patron goddess of the city, whose sanctuary was famously situated on the Sigeion promontory. The reverse depicts a crescent moon, a symbol often associated with the local civic identity or religious observances specific to the area. Sigeon was a site of frequent contention between Athens and Mytilene due to its vital location controlling the entrance to the Black Sea trade routes.
