Yamagata-yaki - Tadashi Yamagata (山縣 正) - Teeschale - Ton

Ryugasaki-yaki Matcha Bowl by Tadashi Yamagata (Grand Prize Winner) This exceptional Chawan (tea bowl) is the work of Tadashi Yamagata, a prominent figure in contemporary Japanese ceramics and a master of the Yamagata Kiln in Ryugasaki, Ibaraki. About the Artist: Tadashi Yamagata’s career spans over five decades. After honing his craft under the Nitten artist Kizan Oda, he established his current kiln in 1988. He is a highly respected educator and a member of the Shin-Nitto (New Japan Ceramic Art) Association. His mastery was solidified by winning the Grand Prize (Taisho) at the 2014 Shin-Nitto Exhibition, following a Silver Prize in 2013. Style & Technique: Known for establishing the "Ryugasaki-yaki" style around the year 2000, Yamagata focuses on the harmony between local minerals and flame. This bowl showcases his signature "Yohen" (kiln transformation) technique. The dramatic interplay of earthy textures and vibrant crystalline glazes reflects the themes often seen in his award-winning works, such as "Deep Mountain Spring" and "Flaring Up." Collector's Note: The bowl features a powerful, hand-carved foot (Kodai) with the artist’s distinct mark. It is a perfect example of his transition from traditional roots to a bold, modern expression of Japanese clay. Dimensions: H 7.5 cm, Dia. 11.0 cm Weight: 300g Accessories: Original wooden box (Tomobako) with the artist's signature and seal.
