Ikebana-Vase - Steinzeug - Japan - Shino Ikebana, Sodeisha - Osamu Suzuki (鈴木治)(1926-2001)

There is a silence to this piece that speaks. A stoneware ikebana vase by Osamu Suzuki (鈴木治), one of the founding members of the Sodeisha — Japan's most radical postwar ceramics collective. Executed in Shino glaze, the surface carries the quiet drama of the kiln: warm whites shifting into soft earth tones, textured and alive with the marks of fire. The rectangular form is deliberately austere. No ornament. No excess. Only clay, glaze, and the accumulated presence of a master's hand. Complete with original signed wooden box (tomobako), storage cloth, and the artist's original biographical document — a rare provenance item seldom found with works of this period. Works by Osamu Suzuki are no longer in production. This is a finite body of work. Artist Profile Osamu Suzuki (鈴木治)(1926–2001) was a co-founder of Sodeisha (走泥社) in 1948, the groundbreaking ceramics group that rejected the decorative traditions of Japanese pottery in favour of sculptural, expressive form. He exhibited internationally from 1950, including in Paris, Florence, New York, and Montreal, and received the Japan Ceramics Society Award in 1961. His works have been shown at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and in major international ceramics exhibitions across Europe and North America. He remains one of the most significant figures in 20th-century Japanese studio ceramics. Condition Excellent condition: barely used with minimal signs of wear. No cracks, chips, or restorations. Comes with original signed wooden box (tomobako), storage cloth, and original artist biographical document.
