Ay-O (1931) - Toun 3 [斗雲3] 1995 Edition 124/150

Ay-O (1931-) "Toun 3," 1995, Silkscreen, 124/150 Ay-O, known worldwide as the artist of rainbows, created this silkscreen work, "Toun 3," in 1995. This work, with an edition number of 124/150, is one of a limited edition of 150. Ay-O, based in New York, was a central figure in the Fluxus movement, and throughout his life, he explored the human senses and cosmic expanse of color. This work, a culmination of his work, features vibrant rainbow-colored gradients soaring across the canvas like clouds or flames. The title of the work, "Toun," evokes the "clouds ascending to the heavens" and "auspicious clouds" found in ancient Chinese folklore, suggesting the spiritual power connecting heaven and earth. Greens and blues swirl upward from the center of the canvas, while the gradation from red to orange spreads downward, symbolizing energy rising from the earth. The undulating colors, which combine strength and lightness, inspire a strong sense of vitality and liberation in the viewer, resonating as if awakening energy deep within. ◆About Ay-O(靉嘔)◆ Ay-O (1931–) was a leading figure in postwar Japanese contemporary art, and is internationally known, particularly as a key member of the New York-based Fluxus movement. Since the 1960s, he has garnered worldwide attention with his rainbow-themed "Rainbow Series," pursuing "liberation through color" in a wide range of media, including prints, paintings, and installations. His works are housed in major museums both in Japan and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, and continue to receive high praise. International Exhibitions: 1966: Exhibited as a representative artist at the Venice Biennale 1970: Received the Tokyo Prize at the 7th Tokyo International Print Biennale for "Rainbow Hokusai" 1971: Exhibited at the São Paulo Biennale (received the Banco do Brasil Prize) 1971: Received the Minister of Foreign Affairs' Award (New York Japanese Art Exhibition) 1995: Received the Medal with Purple Ribbon (from the Japanese government) 2005: Received the Order of the Rising Sun 2023–24: Large-scale retrospectives at the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art ("Happy Rainbow Hell") and M+ in Hong Kong ("Ay-O: Hong Hong Hong") [Size] 38×28.3 cm [Condition] Good condition Please check the photos carefully before bidding.
