Kleines Schränkchen mit vielen Schubladen. - Holz, Eisen, Sugi (Zedernholz) - Japan - Frühe Meiji-Periode (zweite Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts)
An extremely charming handy size wooden tansu 箪笥 (cabinet of drawers) in a single section. Fully restored, cleaned, and waxed.
Crafted from indigenous kiri (paulownia) wood and varnished in a warm brown hue with a rich aged patina.
Configured with two rows of four drawers of similar size on both outer ends, each with its own lock plate and hirute-shaped iron handles. They flank a removable panel with lock, revealing two more rows of four drawers, again same height and width but each with a tightly fitting lid as well, likely to prevent any insects from being able to get inside. They're marked with the syllables of the famous old poem "i-ro-ha", traditionally used to indicate the proper sequence or position of things, in this case each drawer-box.
The sides are equipped with matching warabite-shaped trans port handles.
Period: Japan – Early Meiji period (Second half 19th century)
Dimensions:
Height 64 cm, Width 62.5 cm, Depth 36.5 cm
The cabinet is in a very good, completely restored condition with minimal expected traces of age and use. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity.
